Help your creativity bloom this Spring 🌸🎨 Art supply ideas

Spring time is an excellent time to focus on drawing and painting the blooms and greenery of nature, or whatever peaks your creative interests the most from cartoons to fashion. This list has some repeats from my Holiday Art Supplies but is more simplified to give you or your child a few fresh ideas.

Please note that this post contains Amazon Affiliate links, meaning I may make a small commission when you order through the links provided on Amazon. Why write an affiliate blog? I'm always giving out art supply recommendations to my clients and students, so now I'm centralizing it here on my blog for mutual benefit. Feel free to go to your local art supply store if you prefer, whatever is most convenient for you!

First off are markers. Right now I would say based on my students and clients that the most popular markers are alcohol marker sets and acrylic paint markers. I highly recommend having both.

  • Alcohol markers allow for very cool blending techniques that you won't really find in other mediums along with vivid colors. I recently got this professional mixed marker set from Winsor and Newton so that I could try both the brush tips and chisel tips along with some metallic colors and in the variety pack. I'm enjoying the set and recommend it. Personally, I prefer brush tips for most of my work or thinner outliners.

  • Alternatively, this 48 set or 72 set of Ohuhu Alcohol markers is more economical and very popular for kids and adults. These also have good reviews from my students who have them.

  • For acrylic markers, Posca is a trusted brand. There are many other options, but check the reviews before purchasing.

  • Besides markers, prismacolor pencils are exceptional for a smooth blended finish. These are not like other colored pencils. You can get the Scholar ones here, or check out the professional grade ones here. Please remember that for best results a hand held sharpener kit like this is recommended rather than an electric sharpener.

  • Last on this list is a nice set of vivid watercolors. I have this set and was happy with the quality, variety of colors, and that it came with nice paper and brushes. For this reason I also recommend it as a gift for both adults and children who enjoy art. As a reminder, leave your watercolor set open to dry out and pat dry with tissue or a paper towel too, this will keep your paints fresh as opposed to closing the case when still wet (not a good idea).

With this variety, you'll be sure to get a fresh perspective on your artistic side this Spring. For online art lessons, fill out the form or call/text the number below. And of course I always appreciate referrals too!
